Michael Jackson’s Birthday and His Influence on Fashion | Today’s Fashion

“If fashion says it’s forbidden, I’m going to do it,” Michael wrote in Moonwalk from 1988.

Today the king of pop would celebrate his 60th birthday and in his honor I would like to highlight the influence that Michael continues to have in the fashion world.

Rather than diving into the latest trends on the runways, Michael has always gone his own way with his style, investing in personal dressmakers to create his looks, inspired by art and history.

In his last years of his life, before his album “This is It”, Michael hired Rushka Bergman as his personal stylist (Rushka was the only personal stylist he had throughout his career). Thanks to her work we saw the king of pop using his favorite brands like Christophe Decarnin for Balmain, Tom Ford, Dior Homme, Givenchy, Hedi Slimane and John Galliano.

And his unusual fashion style made it to the runway thanks to Christophe Decarnin designing for Balmain we had a collection inspired by Michael.

In addition to having his image perpetuated through military jackets with a unique design, Michael was also instantly recognized for his accessories: the hats (both black and white), the glove in one hand and his sunglasses.

Below we can see some artists who have been influenced by, or who are inspired by, Michael Jackson during their performances.

We can see that Michael’s legacy is far from over, still influencing several generations that came during or after its heyday.

Now, all these famous artists and designers aside, Michael will forever be eternalised in our memories with his endless collection of military jackets encrusted with stonework and his unique luxurious style.
